Smelling the Truffle

Here are some thoughts as Wayne, Shannon, John and Renata, all members of TABC, took a whiff of a mature Périgord truffle.

Renata: 'As I recall, John was clenching his teeth because he couldn't wait for his turn to smell the truffle. Shannon and Wayne had already done so and were still in a state of blissful exhilaration. And I just couldn't take my nose away from it trying to figure out if the smell was closer to 'an aged wine cork' (Richard's words) or 'fresh cow's milk, straight from the cow' (John's words)'.

John: 'Renata is incorrect. I had my first sniff and was trying to express in words what my nose had just experienced! I still think I can remember the aroma. I do remember that every time I took another sniff, new comparisons came to mind . . . barnyard, cow's milk, socks, musty red wine, pungent cheese, rich earth! Hey don't sound good, but the odour sure was. My mouth salivates and my wallet quivers'.
